Poetry Friday, Writer's Diary #31

Slouching Toward Nirvana in Iqaluit (an early draft)
by John Mutford

I was sitting out
on the front step,
on a chair from
the dinette set,
out in the 6 degree
Arctic sun, to read
and sip a coffee.

These are not poems,
I decided.
These are short stories,
flash fictions.

Still, I enjoyed
them. Until a mosquito
started taunting my

I grabbed the little
bastard, ripped off
a wing, and chucked it
at my feet
to suffer.

*Slouching Toward Nirvana is a collection of Charles Bukowski poems, published in 2005.

I like the startling end. I like to be reading along, la la la, isn't this pleasant, when BOOM I get a surprise.

Glad it didn't scare you off though!

I also pop balloons ;)

Oh, I like that poem. Very muscular Let me get this straigh though. It's a Charles Bukowski poem referencing Charles Bukowski?

Carrie: Well, I wrote it, but it is a Charles Bukowski poem in the sense that it's about him, it references him. That clear?

(I'm such a teenager at heart- I'm still giggling at my word verification: "ipjar")

Oh, NOW I see the byline! Good, because that seemed a little narcisstic for CB.

And did you write this since you won your prestigious life changing Rocking Girl Blogger award? Or back when you were still one of the little people?

Carrie: No, this is pre-RGB. Now I reference Adrienne Rich.
