The Great Wednesday Compare #4- Catch-22 VERSUS One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

The last week's Great Wednesday Compare ( The Handmaid's Tale vs. The Giver), with a final score of 7-5 was Catch-22.

This week we say good-bye to the Canadian classic, The Handmaid's Tale. That novel was my very exposure to Atwood and I loved it. I've gone on to read four other Atwood novels, but still refer to The Handmaid's Tale as my favourite. However, Oryx and Crake came close and, if I'm being honest, it's one I remember most (especially the ChickieNobs). I wonder sometimes if The Handmaid's Tale holds a special spot for me simply because it was my first Atwood book.

This week we move to another book I haven't yet read, though I did see the movie.

Remember, vote simply by adding your comment below, base it on whatever merit you choose, voting does not end until Tuesday at 11:59 p.m. (June 16th, 2009), and if you want your book to get more votes, feel free to promote them here or on your blog!

Which is better?

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest for sure. The movie is great but consider that the book is written from the perspective of Chief, the allegedly deaf mute native, and then you start to get an idea of what a strange, powerful novel this is.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest for me.

I have to admitt that I haven't read either but have seen the movies. Since the book is almost always better than the movie and I loved Cuckoo's Nest, that's my vote. It is on my TBR.

I think I'm going to have to switch my allegiance over to Cuckoo's Nest. It may not have had such an impact on pop culture (although still considerable), but it was so memorable.

One flew east,
One flew west,
One flew over the cuckoo's nest.

Kesey gets my vote.

Well, I still haven't read Catch-22 (and have no desire to) so my vote goes to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, but deservedly so. It's a powerful book and the movie's good too.

I loved Catch-22 the book and Cuckoo's Nest the Movie. I've not read both books so I'm not going to vote, but I will get my hands on Cuckoo's nest soon.

I give Kesey my vote but I read "One Flew" at a much more impressionable time in my life than when I read "Catch 22".

Most definitely One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Fantastic book!

Oh, this is incredibly hard. Both excellent. But I'll place myself in the Cockoo's Nest camp.

Oh, this is a hard one. I have to switch my vote too. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, please.

Hmm, Catch-22 is not so popular this week. But I will still vote for it.
