The winner of last week's Great Wednesday Compare (Jacob Marley VERSUS Ebeneezer Scrooge), with a final score of 10-2 was Ebenezer Scrooge.
Sorry I didn't post the results last week. It being Christmas and all, I was very busy. I'm not entirely shocked with the results, but I was interested in what people had to say about the two. Certainly I agree with Nicola that a ghost fettered in chains makes for quite an image, but on the other hand I agree with those that say Scrooge was more developed. Static versus dynamic. A Christmas Carol, by the way, is the only Dickens I've ever read. Shocking, I know. But that won't stop me from throwing yet another Dickens character into the ring.

Twist
I'm going to vote for Oliver Twist this week as well, but it's been too long since I read either book to be able to give a good reason why!
I thought Scrooge had surely won against Marley. Oh well!
This week I'm voting for Oliver Twist. Much as I like A Christmas Carol, I like the story of Oliver Twist better.
I guess I'm following the trend. I vote for Oliver as well. What's not to like about a poor orphan boy?
April: Ooops! I didn't write the correct results-- you were right, Scrooge had won.
I've got to go with Scrooge with this one. Twist had one good line and it's pretty much the only time he showed any initiative. In the second part of the novel he is only noticeable by his irrelevance to the action of the story. Scrooge is with you to the end and actually evolves.
On the one hand, Oliver Twist is a better singer, but on the other, Scrooge is a bad-ass. Hmmmmmm. Scrooge!
Hmmm...kind of want to go with Twist to shake things up, but as Barb says, Scrooge is still a bad-ass so my vote is for him!
Oliver Twist for me.
